2016 will bring LightSince the start of the New Year, I have been searching for a word to represent my hopes, dreams and goals; and I have decided that I am welcoming 2016 with Light.

Welcoming the Year

This will be the 4th year I’ve pointed my compass using a particular word for direction. I started in 2013 with the word Forward; 2014 I wanted to Stretch; and then last year I wanted to Reboot.

Each year I’ve used my words to guide me, help me keep on a chosen path and continue to move toward my goals; and each year I’ve come to the end feeling that I have more to show but also more that I could do.

But isn’t that the point of life, moving forward, stretching ourselves and rebooting to stay on our path?

Welcoming 2016 with Light

Bringing Light into my LifeThe word I have chosen for 2016 is Light.

The last few years have been difficult for everyone, not just me; some might say “the world is going to hell in a hand basket.” Some days it felt like the sun wasn’t even shining in my world.

So I have resolved to make this year different. Every morning, before I even get out of bed, I breathe; breathe in light, breathe out darkness, breathe in love, breathe out darkness. I make it a point to visualize my breath as it enters my body and again as it leaves–pushing out any bad feelings, anger or frustrations that may be lurking inside, with each cleansing breath releasing the darkness inside.

When I’m out and about, I make sure to take time to appreciate the sun–beautiful sunrises on my way to work, bright sunshine in the afternoons, and splashy colorful sunsets in the evening.

Light in 2016

I think I’ve chosen a strong word for the year–a multi-purpose word too. Light is a thing, an action and a description.

The plan is to stay positive, for me and for those around me; to find solutions to the problems I run across and share them with others; and to lighten my surroundings with color, with space and with less than I have now.

So welcome to my New Year, and welcome to 2016.

  1. I love the word that you chose! We need more light in the world, I agree. Too much negativity on the news, so I think it’s great if you can be a light to others & remain positive.
