Vespa? Honda? Piaggio?

A few months ago, I updated my blog; and a dear friend created my wonderful little scooter gal logo.  Don’t you just love her?  I sure do.  So I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a scooter.  A friend of mine bought himself a Harley Davidson; and I briefly considered going in that direction–but I don’t think I fit into the “biker chick” mold (or even the biker chic one).

A couple of months ago, I saw the movie Larry Crowne, with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts; a totally forgettable, summer flick that lasted in the theaters for about 10 minutes.  But one thing stuck with me from this movie–the scooters!  And when I was talking to my friend (and hair stylist), I found out that she felt the same way.  Only she had followed through and bought herself a Vespa.

So I’ve been up all night, looking to see what’s available, what the costs are, and what I’ll need to do to get one–safety class, insurance costs, accessories and more.  I am just loving the accessories angle too!   But now I just want some opinions; what do you think?  Have you ridden a scooter?  Know someone who has one?

Let me know what you think.  And if you decide to join me, maybe we’ll let you into our scooter gang too!

  1. This lady on my street drives the cutest peach colored scooter. It looks similar to the one you have pictured. When I see her drive by, it makes me want to get on one and take a ride too!

  2. I’m debating it; I’d have to get a bigger one in order to drive the freeway to work–not sure I’d do that though. It would sure be fun on the weekends though!

  3. There’s a girl that lives around me – I ALWAYS see her on a scooter!

My sister-in-law thought about buying a scooter, but they get snow and she didn’t want to deal with the scooter in the snow. She bought some kind of car.

  4. My SIL has a scooter and she loves it. I’ve never ridden one but it seems like it would be easier to learn and maneuver when compared to a motorcycle.

  5. We owned a scooter for 3 years while in college. It was SO nice. Cheap on gas, great for commuting around a small community and it was definitely fun to ride. I would recommend getting one in a heartbeat!

  7. I have a little white Buddy 50 scooter and I take it everywhere. I absolutely love it. It was a gift from my husband for Mother’s Day. It is perfect for local errands, getting-around-the-city, and just going for a scoot on a September Sunday afternoon. And it gets about 100 miles to the gallon! I highly, highly recommend getting a scooter. It is the definition of exhilaration.

  8. I love it! When I was young, like 7th grade, a friend of mine had a moped. We scooted all over her neighborhood on it. Loved it. Gave me such a feeling of freedom! This post reminded me of it. I think you should definitely get one. Would be so much fun!
